Free or Low Cost Spay/Neuter Programs (especially for feral cats/kittens). You can now help stop the vicious cycle of feral cat reproduction by trapping, spaying/neutering, and releasing feral cats in your area. Please contact the below listed agencies for assistence.

Animal Birth Control Assistance

408-244-8351 or 408-245-4949

Call for the name of a participating veterinarian in your area. They send you a voucher that is good for 60 days and you do the rest. The price is discounted, usually dependent on the animal's weight.

Note: This is a non-profit organization dedicated to decreasing the number of unwanted animals born to suffer and die. Animal Birth Control is a low-cost spay/neuter referral service working with several veterinarians in the South Bay. They raise money by holding garage sales with merchandise donated by people who believe in their cause.

Free Spay/Neuter for Feral Cats

  • Improve the lives of stray and feral cats! Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) saves lives and controls feral populations better than trap and kill. TNR reduces fights, yowling and other unwanted behavior, promoting a more stable, healthy and quiet population.
  • FoFAS provides FREE spay/neuter certificates for TNR (we pay for spay/neuter surgery and ear tipping).
  • Feral cats must be brought to the vet in humane traps and released to home territory (you may rent traps from FoFAS).
  • We provide guidance and written instructions for successful trapping.
  • Call 510-520-5882 to request a certificate.

Proof of residency in Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, or unincorporated areas of Hayward or San Leandro is required. Please call for availability. CERTIFICATES are LIMITED.

Free Spay/Neuter for Pit Bull and Pit Bull Mix Dogs

  • More of these dogs are killed in shelters than any other breed! In 2002, 38% of surrendered Pit Bulls were killed.
  • Help us reduce these numbers! FoFAS will pay for their spay/neuter. Call 510-520-5882 to request a FREE certificate.

Proof of residency in Castro Valley, San Lorenzo, or unincorporated areas of Hayward or San Leandro is required. Please call for availability. CERTIFICATES are LIMITED.

Low Cost Spay/Neuter Certificates

  • Certificates are available at the FoFASŐ volunteer office and are redeemable at local participating veterinary hospitals.
  • Cost: $20 for male cats , $35 for female catsá
  • Cost: $35 for male dogs, $40 for female dogs.
  • (Vets may charge additional fees for exam and vaccinations prior to surgery. FoFAS pays only for the spay/neuter surgery.)
