This Animal is PENDING ADOPTION.
Katy was rescued on 8/29/12 from a crowded shelter. She was starved & emaciated. Despite being neglected, she is very sweet, gentle and friendly. Our volunteer fell in love with her. It was very emotionally hard to see her suffering, skin and bones (bones/hip bones showing). So sad. She will need lots of healthy food and TLC in a foster home to regain her health. Needs to gain about 20-30 lbs. More info. & new photo to come.
UPDATE 01/22/2013:
Katy has proven to be an amazing dog. Despite being severely underweight, she has maintained an extremely sweet and loving disposition throughout her recovery.
After gaining just over 20 pounds, her energy has rebounded. She loves to play, go on long walks, and run---ready to be a great running partner for someone.
Dogs that work best with Katy are more submissive/less confident in nature but must like to play. She tends to do best with male dogs, however, if the temperament is right, females are just fine with her.
She is extremely affectionate, loves to meet new people, and most of all, thoroughly enjoys couch potato mode.
Katy’s new found energy is the result of uncovering a medical condition known as EPI or Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency---a common condition among German Shepherds. This condition prevents dogs from properly digesting food due to the lack of digestive enzymes made by the pancreas. The condition is easy to treat. At every feeding she will need a pancreatic supplement added to her food. This supplement will need to be given the remainder of her life. While EPI is a life-long condition, with proper treatment, she is just like any other dog.
